This year in late May and early June I went to Nepal for Saga Dawa as a Buddhist Pilgrimage. Along the way, I picked up a number of items which I will be making available here.
This is a 108 bead Yak Bone skull carved mala with a Yak Bone Guru Bead. This a rare high quality item that was hard to find. I picked this up from a dealer next to Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu. The skull beads are hand carved, intricately detailed, and very unique. The coloring is a natural bone-white coloring. The skulls vary a bit in coloration, size, opacity, and form. However, all 108 beads are carved into small human skulls from Yak Bone.
This mala is more on the smaller size. The perfect mala for practice and to wear. Excellent for Tantra Ceremony, wrathful mantra practice, or as a gift to your dharma teacher or friend. Perfect for Buddhist practitioners from many traditions.
The total length of the mala laid flat from the top to the bottom of the guru bead is about 21.75 inches or about 55.25cm. On average the skull beads are about 10mm to 11mm long and about 9mm in width. This one is laced with a single strand of black nylon cord and has a sliding knot to adjust for the tension of the skull beads.
