Yak Bone Carved Skull Citipati Mala - Medium - Cylindrical Beads - Unique - Tantra Mantra
This is a 108 bead Yak Bone skull carved Citipati mala with a Yak Bone Citipati Guru Bead. This style of mala is unique, high quality, and difficult to find. I picked this up from a Tibetan couple who have a small shop in the Swayambhunath Stupa area of Kathmandu. Swayambhunath is also known as “The Monkey Temple.” The skull beads are hand carved, elegantly detailed, and very intricate with a beautiful bone white to a dark bone coloring. The single unified yak bone Guru Bead is also carved as a Citipati skull and adds uniqueness to the overall appearance of the mala.
The skull beads vary a bit in color tone, size, and form. However, all 108 beads are carved into small human skulls from Yak Bone. These Citipati beads are aligned in the same direction throughout the mala and have a cylindrical shape with a flat top and bottom. Excellent for Tantra Ceremony, wrathful mantra practice, or as a gift to you dharma teacher or friend.
The total length of the mala laid flat from the top to the bottom of the guru bead is about 22.50 inches or about 55.88cm. The total length of the Citipati Mala is 24.00 inches or 60.96cm to the bottom of the mala cords. On average the skull beads are about 10.5mm long, about 9.5mm width, and about 9.5mm thick. This mala is a bit on the larger size compared to other similar malas I have listed. Additionally, I only have a few of this style and color available and only this one with this style of guru bead.
I re-laced this Citipati mala with a double strand of black nylon cord for added strength and durability, and added the guru bead. Additionally, it is finished with a sliding knot to adjust the tension of the skull beads.
