This is a 54-bead Yak Bone skull carved "Half-Mala" with a Yak Bone Guru Bead. This style of mala are rare, high quality, and a difficult to find. The skull beads are hand carved, elegantly detailed, and very unique with a beautiful tan coloring. The complimenting Yak Bone Guru Bead creats a clean and contrasting appearance. This mala is both subtle and powerful.
Half-Mala are also called "Prostration Mala" as they are easier to hold and count while doing prostrations. Some practitioners use half-malas for mantras while walking or use then as travel mala as they are also easy to carry. Additionally, these are used by children because they are shorter and lighter.
The skull beads vary a bit in color tone, size, and form. Additionally, the beads have a cylindrical shape. All 108 beads are carved into small human skulls from Yak Bone. Excellent for Tantra Ceremony, wrathful mantra practice, or as a gift to you dharma teacher, friend, or to a child.
This mala has smaller and more narrow cylindrical sized beads. The total length of the mala laid flat from the top to the bottom of the guru bead is about 11.00 inches or about 27.94cm. The length to the bottom of the cords is 12.50 inches or 31.75cm. On average the skull beads are about 10mm long, about 7.5mm width, and about 7.5mm thick. This one is laced with a double strand of black nylon cord and has a sliding knot to adjust for the tension of the skull beads.
