This is a 108 bead Yak Bone skull carved Citipati mala with a Yak Bone Citipati Guru Bead that compliments the look and feel of this mala. This a rare high quality item that was hard to find. I picked this up from a shop owner in the Boudhanath Stupa area of Kathmandu while on Pilgrimage in March 2024. The skull beads are hand carved, elegantly detailed, and very unique with a light beige to tan-ish coloring. They vary a bit in color, size, opacity, and form. And there are a few strikingly white colored beads which adds unique contrast. However, all 108 beads are carved into small human skulls from Yak Bone. This mala is finished with a unified Citipati Buru Bead.
I was very pleased to find this and to be able to move them along to you. I was able to find a few different styles Yak Bone skull carved malas from dealers including this one. This mala is a bit on the larger and heavier side. Excellent for Tantra Ceremony, wrathful mantra practice, or as a gift to you dharma teacher or friend.
The total length of the mala laid flat from the top to the bottom of the guru bead is about 25.00 inches or about 63.50cm and 26.25 inches or 66.68cm to the bottob of the cords. On average the skull beads are about 11.5mm to 12mm long, about 11mm width, and about 9-10mm thick. This is laced with a double strand of black nylon cord for strength and durability and has a sliding knot to adjust for the tension of the skull beads. I only have one of this style.
