I picked up these yak bone skull carved Citipati beads from a dear friend and shop owner in the Boudhanath Stupa area of Kathmandu, Nepal this past March 2024. After I returned, I laced it using two cords of 1mm black nylon cord for strength and longevity. The yak bone guru bead and the matching spacer beads have been waiting for just the right mala.
This mala is designed with the skulls facing the same direction as it tradition. Therefore, this is more of a functional mala for mantra practice. Excellent for Tantra Ceremony, wrathful mantra practice, or as a gift to your dharma teacher or friend. I finished this mala with a sliding knot to allow for changing the tension of the mala. This allows for decorations, bhum counters, and mala counters to be easily added and used. The overall length of the mala from the top to the bottom of the guru bead is 26.25 inches or 66.68cm and 28.25 inches or 71.76cm to the bottom of the cord tails.
These are exceptionally high quality Citipati skull carved yak bone beads. This can be seen in 3 ways. First, the size of the beads are equally shaped and consistent a bit over 12mm tall, 10mm wide, and 10mm thick. Secondly, The color tone is also quite even which gives this mala a clean yet powerful appearance. Lastly, the detailed quality of the skull carvings is truly amazing. This mala is certainly worthy of being offered as part of my Special Mala Collection.
