Ruktu Seed Mala - 8-9mm - Light Brown - Asura Cave - Pharping - Sourced From Local Trees

Earlier this year in late March through early April 2025, I returned to Nepal continuing my practice of Buddhist Pilgrimage. Along the way, I hand-picked this item with other selected practice supplies, supports, and sacred objects.

This Raktu Seed is known as the "Brother to the Bodhi Seed." This Mala has a even light brown even color and tone. The guru bead is a classic three-eyed Bodhi Seed. I picked this up right outside the Asura Cave doorway near Pharping, Nepal from a local seller. I have been acquiring mostly Bodhi Seed malas from this seller for the past 4 years. He is a very sweet man I am happy to offer this mala. This year he had Raktu seed malas made from local Banyan trees around Asura Cave.

Asura cave is considered the most prominent and important cave in Nepal associated with Guru Rinpoche, Padmasambhava. I visit this cave to practice mantra and meditate while on Pilgrimage in Nepal.

The beads are 8.0mm to 9mm wide and have no trimming. Therefore, I am offering this as a "9.0mm" mala because that is the largest distance from top to bottom of some of the beads. The length of the mala is 16.50 inches or 41.91cm from the top of the mala to the bottom of the guru bead. The length from the top of the mala to the bottom of the mala cords and decoration beads is 18.00 inches or 45.72cm. This Buddhist prayer bead mala is laced with a single loop of 1mm red cord and has a total of four Bodhi Seed decoration beads. This mala cord is tied off.

This mala has a very soothing appearance. The light medium brown color has a consistent tone. The beads are also very similar in size and shape which gives this mala a nive even look. The beads are in excellent condition and feel very good in hand. This is an excellent Raktu mala I hand picked right at Asura Cave near Pharping, Nepal from a trusted source.
