I recently returned from my 4th Buddhist Pilgrimage to Nepal. This year I was also fortunate to spend 4 days in Bhutan visiting many sacred Vajrayana locations including the revered Tigers' Nest Monastery (Taktsang Gonga). Along the way, I hand-selected many Buddhist objects and practice supplies.
This is a very high quality amber mala I picked up this year in late April in Kathmandu. I was fortunate to have found this seller and the quality products offered. The bead size average 8.6mm to 8.8mm and I am saying it is just under 9mm or 8.8mm. Amber malas in this size and quality are harder to find. The color tone is a rich Cognac and is very unique. In sunlight or backlit with a lamp, you can see the smokey quality of the beads. Please see the images to see this mala with no backlighting, two images with a lamp, and three images backlit with sunlight. The feel of the mala is delicate and smooth as is the nature of amber.
The mala is laced with a single yellow nylon cord that is tied off. The guru bead is 17.8mm in size and there are 8 decoration amber beads at the bottom of the mala. The overall length of the mala is 19.00 inches or 48.26cm from the top to the bottom of the guru bead. From the top to the bottom of the decoration beads is 21.25 inches or 53.98cm. This is a beautiful mala and would be a beneficial support to your practice, or as a gift to you dharma teacher or friend.
